New Delhi: A group of unidentified people opened fire at AAP MLA Naresh Yadav’s convoy in southwest Delhi’s Kishangarh village on late Tuesday night, police said. The incident took place when the newly elected MLA of Mehrauli was returning home after visiting a temple in his constituency. According to sources, seven rounds were fired. A person injured in the incident was admitted to a nearby hospital, police said. “The incident is really unfortunate. I don’t know the reason behind the attack but it happened all of a sudden. Around 4 rounds were fired. The vehicle I was in was attacked. I am sure if police inquire properly, then they will be able to identify the assailant,” Naresh Yadav was quoted as saying by ANI. Police said one accused has been arrested. “It is a case of personal enmity and it has nothing to do with politics. Further investigation is underway,” an official said.
On Tuesday, Delhi voters gave a huge mandate to Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party as AAP secured 62 setas — five seats fewer than its 2015 performance. Naresh Yadav, the Mehrauli MLA, defeated BJP’s Kusum Khatri with a margin of 18,161 votes.
