Silli By-election Results Updates: The counting of votes for Silli bypoll in Jharkhand began at 8 AM on Thursday, i.e. May 31. The voting for Silli Assembly bye-election in Ranchi district was held amidst tight security arrangements on May 28. Silli Vidhan Sabha seat recorded a total of 75 per cent voter turnout. The main contest on the seat is between the former deputy chief minister and AJSU president Sudesh Mahto and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM) Seema Mahto, wife of disqualified MLA Amit Mahto. By-election to Silli was necessitated following the conviction of sitting MLA, Amit Mahto, of the JMM in a criminal assault case in March. A total of ten candidates are in the fray for the seat. Voting on the Sili Vidhan Sabha seat on May 28 was conducted peacefully and no incidents of violence were reported. During voting for by-election in Silli, VVPADS were connected with EVMs. In the VVPADS, the name of the candidate and the candidates election symbol were displayed. On the day of counting of votes, VVPAD and EVMS would be compared and any disorder could be ascertained. BJP MLA Anant Ojha, who was one of the in-charges made for the bypolls, had earlier expressed confidence that the party candidate from Gomia and NDA candidate from Silli would emerge victorious on Thursday.
Apart from Silli, voting for Gomia Assembly seat was also held on May 28. A total of 62 per cent turnout was recorded.
