Patna, Apr 1: In a major crackdown, seven illegal slaughterhouses have been sealed in Rohtas district of Bihar. The move comes after the order of the Patna High Court to seal all the illegal slaughterhouses in the district within six weeks.

Following Uttar Pradesh’s footsteps on action against illegal slaughterhouses in the state, the Bihar government had sought reports from District Magistrates on the same on March 24.

Earlier on Friday, the Gujarat government had amended the state’s Animal Preservation Bill to entail a maximum punishment of life imprisonment and a minimum of 10 years for cow slaughter after it was passed in the Assembly in the absence of the Opposition Congress and with the visitors’ gallery packed with saffron-clad Hindu priests.

In Uttar Pradesh, crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses and meat shops was ordered by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath days after coming to power in the state. Earlier on Thursday the representatives of slaughterhouses met CM Adityanath. As per sources the meeting was productive as the CM has assured that no action will be taken against those having legal license. The meat sellers had launched a strike on Monday.
