Gandhi further claimed that Manmohan Singh became PM when country was on edge and within months, his policies had a profound calming effect.

New Delhi: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Monday heaped praises on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying India has enhanced respect across the globe in his decade Prime Ministerial long tenure.

“Manmohan Singh’s demeanour is such that it appears he was born wise. In his decade long Prime Ministerial tenure, India recorded its highest economic growth rate ever,”said the former Congress president.

She also launched an indirect attack on PM Narendra Modi saying,”There are those who work and there are those who take credit. Try to be in the first group. Indira ji was told by his grandfather. The foundations of Dr Manmohan Singh’s later success was laid during Indiraji’s years. Over his (Dr. Manmohan Singh) tenure, he earned for India enhanced respect across the globe not by seeking credit or kudos, but by allowing his work to speak for itself.”

Gandhi further claimed that Manmohan Singh became PM when country was on edge and within months, his policies had a profound calming effect.

The former Congress was speaking in an event, organised on the occasion of late former PM Indira Gandhi  101st birth anniversary. Earlier in the day, former President Pranab Mukherjee, former Vice President Hamid Ansari, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi offered floral tributes to the country’s first woman Prime Minister at the Shakti Sthal memorial.
