New Delhi, August 2: Congress president Sonia Gandhi returned from Varanasi to Delhi, cutting short her poll trip to Uttar Pradesh. During a roadshow in Varanasi earlier in the day, Sonia fall ill, which prompted the party leaders to call off the rally. Subsequently, she was taken to airport. Due to delay in the Delhi-bound flight, doctors at the airport were forced to put her on the drip.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed concern over the condition of Sonia Gandhi. He had even called senior Congress leader and party’s chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh Sheila Dikshit to check the condition of Sonia. Modi offered to send an air ambulance to Varanasi to bring her back to Delhi.

As of now, the cause of illness has not been revealed. However, it turned into a serious condition as major Congress leaders were in touch with party members in Varanasi.
Earlier in the day, Congress held a massive rally in Varanasi, which was led by Sonia Gandhi. Among other leaders present at the event, include Ghulam Nabi Azad, Raj Babbar, Sheila Dikhit, Sanjay Sinha to name a few.
