Kolkata, March 28: Subrata Sinha, who allegedly hacked 15-year-old national level spiker Sanghjita Aich on Friday, was remanded in police custody on Monday.

The accused allegedly stabbed the aspiring volleyball player repeatedly when she was practising with other teammates under the watchful guidance of their coach Swapan Das in Barasat in North 24 Parganas. Sanghita represented Bengal in the sub-junior national volleyball championships.

The chief judicial magistrate of Barasat finally ordered his remand but also asked the probing team to go a for test which will determine whether the bloodstains found on the accused’s clothes match with that of the victim’s. The next hearing for the case is slated for April 1 (Friday) before which the test will have to be done. Also, the statements of the eyewitnesses have been recorded on Monday under secrecy. While being escorted out of the courtroom, Sinha looked unfazed with he had had and said that he did what he had to. But he maintained that he didn’t want to kill the budding player.

It may be recalled that on Friday, Sinha barged into the premises where Sanghita was practising and stabbed her repeatedly. Coach Das tried his best to thwart Sinha from committing the crime, but failed in his bid to do so.

Sinha  surrendered on Saturday and claimed that he had been forced to take the extreme step after he found out that Sanghita alias Tina had been cheating on him. He had allegedly been in a relationship with her for the past couple of years. More than 25 spikers and their three coaches looked on in horror.
