Lucknow: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA now wants Sultanpur to be renamed to Kushbhawanpur. “I want Sultanpur should be again called as Kushbhawanpur. It was named Sultanpur by the Khilji dynasty. This history is mentioned in ‘Raghuvansh Mahakavya’ and even in Gazetteer of Sultanpur,” Devmani Dwivedi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The demand by the BJP MLA from Lambhua constituency in Sultanpur comes a few days after rechristening of Allahabad to Prayagraj and Faizabad to Ayodhya.
With regard to the matter, he had submitted a proposal in the UP Legislative Assembly in August. The House had agreed to discuss the same, a report claimed.
In the recent past, various leaders have demanded a name change for several districts of Uttar Pradesh. While, some want Agra to be renamed as ‘Agrawal’, others want it to be called as ‘Agravan’.
In November, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath finally broke his silence on his renaming spree across the state and said that the government “did what felt good”. Indicating that the state government is likely to rename more cities, Adityanath said that the required steps will be taken, whenever there is a need.
“We did what we felt was good. We renamed Mughalsarai as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhayay Nagar, Allahabad as Prayagraj and Faizabad as Ayodhya. Where there is a need, the government will take the steps required,” he had said.
