On Friday, the court summoned Shashi Tharoor as an accused on charges of cruelty and abetting a suicide, stating that there were “sufficient grounds” to prove the same. The 3,000-page chargesheet which mentions Shashi Tharoor as the only accused is enough for the court to proceed against him on “sufficient grounds” in the Sunanda Pushkar death case. Shashi Tharoor’s advocate, Vikas Pahwa pointed out, “The law is very clear that if the chargesheet is filed without arrest the bail is inevitable. According to the chargesheet, a special investigation team (SIT) deduced Tharoor “as a husband ignored Sunanda when she was sliding or slipping into depression and she had Alprax.”

The chargesheet claims that despite Sunanda Pushkar’s efforts to connect with her husband through social media and mobile phone, Shashi Tharoor “ignored her calls and disconnected her calls in the days before her death.”

On January 17, 2014, Sunanda Pushkar (51) was found dead in her suite at a five-star hotel in Delhi. Police have taken her last messages in social media for a declaration of death. Police said that in a mail to Shashi Tharoor, Sunanda Pushkar wrote that she had “no desire to live…all I pray for is death.” A couple of days before her suicide, her social media account reveals her alleged accusation against her husband of having an affair with a Pakistani journalist.
