New Delhi: As soon the Supreme Court on Monday ruled that reservations for promotions in government jobs is not a fundamental right, a massive ruckus was witnessed in Parliament, leading to an adjournment of the Lok Sabha.
While the government asserted that it has anything to do with the Supreme Court’s order, the Congress and other Opposition parties alleged that the BJP and its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were against reservations.
“It is in the DNA of RSS and BJP to try and erase reservation”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated. Upping the ante against PM Narendra Modi and RSS chief, the former Congress president said,”We’ll never allow reservations to be done away with no matter how much (Narendra) Modi Ji or Mohan Bhagwat dream of it.”
LJP President and MP Chirag Paswan also opposed the SC’s ruling saying that the Lok Jan Shakti Party does not agree with the Supreme Court’s decision that reservations for jobs, promotions, is not a fundamental right. He also urged the Narendra Modi-led Centre to intervene in the matter.
Defending the government, Union Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Congress party is politicising this sensitive matter. “The Social Welfare Minister will soon make a statement. Please wait for him to make his statement”, he added.
Echoing similiar remarks, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that this is SC’s decision and the government of India has nothing to do with it. He also asked the Opposition to wait for Social Welfare Minister’s statement at 2:15 PM.
