Surat, June 13: At least 4 people beat up a youth after they found out that he was transporting calves in his van near Ishroli village in Surat yesterday. The four people suspected as cow vigilantes beat a youth named Muhib Abubakar as he was coming from Mahuva taluka with six calves in his van. Abubakar, who is a resident of Valsad’s town Mota Taiwan, was stopped by these four unsuspecting people on the Mahuva Bardoli road near a petrol pump.

According to the police complaint filed, the four people were in a car and carried wooden sticks once they de-boarded their vehicle. The victim Abubakar said that as soon as he saw the men getting off the car with wooden sticks, he tried to escape but got thrashed midway. Police confirmed the same. Thereafter, he managed to escape into a sugarcane field and then got an auto-rickshaw to the New Civil Hospital in Surat where he got himself admitted. The authorities at the hospital informed the police and it was then that Abubakar’s statements were recorded by the police.

Bardoli police sub-inspector BK Patel said, “We have registered an offence against four cow vigilantes. We are locating the accused and they will be arrested soon.” A case has been registered against the culprits under sections 323, 324 and 114 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police further said that Abubakar was in a stable condition but he had multiple injuries on his head and hands. The police said that they have recovered Abubakar’s van near the petrol pump but his calves were missing.
