New Delhi: Minsiter of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Monday said that she can understand English of all accents and grammar, thanks to the top role in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet.
The Foreign Minister was replying to a tweet from an Indian man based in Malaysia, who was asking for her help to send his friend back to India. The man’s tweet had grammatical errors. Commenting on the grammar, another man asked him to write to the MEA in either Hindi or Punjabi.
Sushma Swaraj responded to it saying “there is no problem. After becoming Foreign Minister, I have learnt to follow English of all accents and grammar”.
The Foreign minister is known for her quick and direct responses on Twitter.
On Monday, Sushma Swaraj put out an appeal on Twitter for help with contacting the family of UN consultant Shikha Garg, who was among the four Indians killed in the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash. “I am trying to reach the family of Shikha Garg who has unfortunately died in the air crash. I have tried her husband’s number many times. Please help me reach her family,” Sushma Swaraj said in one of her many tweets.
Sushma Swaraj is a former Supreme Court lawyer and India’s second woman foreign minister after Indira Gandhi. She is affiliated to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “At the age of 25 in 1977, she became the youngest cabinet minister of north Indian state of Haryana. She also served as 5th Chief Minister of Delhi from 13 October 1998 to 3 December 1998,” Wikipedia notes.
