New Delhi, Dec 7: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is likely to address both Houses of Parliament on Monday, before leaving for her two-day official visit to Pakistan. In a major development, Swaraj is scheduled to meet the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the ‘Heart of Asia’ conference.

Nawaz Sharif’s foreign advisor Sartaj Aziz confirmed that the meeting is scheduled between the Indian External Affairs Minister and the Pakistani premier. “India’s EAM Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on her visit. Ties between the two nations have taken a positive note,” he said.

Swaraj was earlier stated to address the Parliament after returning from Islamabad. However, government suddenly changed their decision and announced that the External Affair Minister will answer the questions raised by the Opposition today itself, before leaving for Islamabad tomorrow.

The Opposition-led by Congress questioned the process, timing and backdrop of National Security Advisor (NSA)-level talks conducted in Bangkok and the lack of transparency adopted by the government in revealing their stance on the bilateral relation. “Congress wants to know what transpired at NSA-level talks. What is the government’s stance on relation with Pakistan – at times they adopt a confrontation mode and then suddenly they mend up ties,” said Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Azad.
