Silchar, Dec.27: External Affairs Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj will today visit Silchar to boost the party’s chances in the State Assembly election going to be held next year. According to the BJP sources, Swaraj will address a rally of party workers at the Gandhi Mela ground here. Over 50,000 BJP workers from across Barak Valley are expected to attend the rally. She will be accompanied by Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP’s All-India General Secretary Ram Madhav and others. There are 15 assembly segments across the three districts of Barak Valley. In the 2011 election, BJP drew a blank here. However, in the last by-election in September 2014, BJP won the prestigious Silchar seat.
