New Delhi: Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj launched a scathing attack on Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan asking him to prove that he is a statesman by handing over Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) Masood Azhar to India.

“We are ready to engage with Pakistan in atmosphere free from terror. Some people say Imran Khan is a statesman, if he is so generous then he should hand over JeM chief Masood Azhar to India. Let’s see how generous he is,” Swaraj said on Wednesday.

Tension flared up between both countries after the dastardly Pulwama terror attack on February 14 in Jammu and Kashmir. Forty Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed as an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into a bus in the convoy, some distance short of its destination. The JeM had claimed responsibility of the attack.

In retaliation, India carried out pre-emptive strike on JeM terror camps in Balakot, Pakistan, killing over 300 terrorists. In response, Pakistan violated Indian air space in Nowshera and Poonch sectors of J&K but were pushed back by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Meanwhile, China yet again blocked India’s bid to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) 1267 list. China has single-handedly been blocking Azhar’s listing as a global terrorist at the UNSC committee for a decade now. The proposal to designate Masood Azhar under the UNSC 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee was moved by France, UK and the US on February 27.
