Bengaluru: Suspended Congress MLA JN Ganesh, who is facing a case of attempt to murder for allegedly assaulting his lawmaker colleague Anand Singh during a brawl at private resort in Bengaluru was arrested on Wednesday. He will be produced before Ramnagar court on Thursday.
The arrest was made at 2 PM in Somnath, Gujarat, informed Karnataka Home Minister MB Patil while speaking to the media earlier in the day.
Briefing about the development, Karnataka Home Minister MB Patil on Wednesday said, “Congress MLA JN Ganesh was held by our police at 2 PM in Somnath, Gujarat, today. He will be brought to Bengaluru later today. He will be produced before Ramnagar court tomorrow.”
The Bengaluru police has been on the lookout for the ‘absconding’ Congress MLA since January 23. The party had also taken disciplinary action by suspending him and registering an FIR.
Ganesh and Anand Singh allegedly entered into a brawl at Eagleton Resorts on the city outskirts where the Congress MLAs were herded together to prevent them from Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) alleged poaching bid to topple the Congress-JDS government.
A police official probing the case said “We have teams to arrest him, but he is not reachable. We could not arrest him.”
Besides attempt to murder, Ganesh, who was one of the MLAs reportedly under the BJP lens for desertion, has been charged with causing grievous injuries and threatening Singh.
Singh’s son Siddharth Singh told reporters at the hospital that his father has fractured two ribs and a bone below the right eye.
