West Bengal Assembly Election 2026: As the West Bengal Election 2026 is expected in April, the Bharatiya Janata Party has released the list of first candidates. According to the released list, Suvendu Adhikari will be contesting the Bhabanipur constituency seat. What makes this seat a special one is that the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, is expected to fight from the same seat.
Fight over Bhabanipur Assembly Constituency
As the BJP had fielded Suvendu Adhikari for the Bhabanipur Assembly Constituency, the seat becomes an integral one for the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026. It's because the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, is expected to contest from the same seat, as per reports.
Suvendu Adhikari to fight from Bhabanipur and Nandigram
According to the first candidates' list released by the BJP for the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, Suvendu Adhikari will be contesting from two constituency seats, Bhabanipur and Nandigram.
BJP releases first candidates' list
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released the first candidates' list on March 16 for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Election 2026. According to the list, Suvendu Adhikari has been fielded from the Bhabanipur and Nandigram Assembly Constituencies. In addition, Agnimitra Paul has been fielded from the Asansol Dakshin Assembly Constituency and Bidyut Roy from the Balurghat Assembly Constituency. Alongside, Suvendu Sarkar has been fielded in the list from Kumarganj, and Suvendu Samanta has been fielded in the list from Keshpur.

The list for all 144 candidates has been shared by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the official website. Before making it public, several BJP leaders had a meeting to discuss the candidates' list. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The Home Minister Amit Shah, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several others participated in it.
