New Delhi, June 8: The Rashtrya Swayam Sangh (RSS) has sparked a controversy after days of laying low. In a school in Laskana in Surat, an idol of Swaminarayan was found wearing an RSS uniform. Swaminaranyan Mission School, run by Swaminarayan Gurukul Vidyalaya reopened on Monday after RSS organised educational and physical training camps came to an end. On the first day back, students found the idol dressed up as “Sewak”. The controversy spread through word of mouth and then went viral on social media. Soon the followers of Swaminarayan came together outside the school, trying to enter the school premises. The RSS organised nearly 20 camps for the school which saw a participation of more than 600 students. RSS Sangh Sanchalak Dr. Jayenti Bhadeshiya was the chief guest of the event who denied any involvement in the decision to dress up the idol as an RSS volunteer. “RSS leaders had not changed the dress but the Swamiji who is taking care of the school had change the dress of lord Swaminarayan idol,” he said as reported by the Indian Express. Swami Vishwa Prakashji, the sadhu or god-man who runs the school reportedly ordered that the idol be dressed as an RSS Sewak. The uniform was given to the school by the RSS at the end of the camp, on Sunday and the student returned back to school on Monday when they found the idol donning a black cap, loose khaki shorts and white shirt, holding the tricolour. The Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki called for criminal action against the BJP and the RSS. Adding to that, the Surat city Congress president said, “The incident is really condemnable. We are also followers of Swaminarayan Sect and our religious feels had been hurt by the incident,” the report quoted.

“They change attires of the idol with different themes on different occasions, regularly. Our RSS leaders had not forced him,” Dr. Bhadeshiya added, defending the school authorities.
