Salem: A 13-year-old Dalit girl was beheaded by her neighbour Dinesh Kumar in Tamil Nadu’s Salem allegedly after she rejected his advances. Police have arrested the accused and have launched a probe into the matter. The incident took place at a small village near Attur.
The complaint filed by the girl’s parents levels allegations of sexual misconduct against the accused, an upper-caste Hindu, a police official said. Meanwhile, the reports of accused being mentally disturbed have been dismissed by the police.
According to reports, the deceased teenager had rejected the accused’s advances and also informed her mother. Police said that Kumar beheaded her using a sickle.
The victim was studying at a nearby government school and was the last of three siblings. Her parents are said to be labourers.
In an earlier incident, a woman was beheaded in Alwar by her father-in-law over working in a factory against the wishes of the family, a report said. She was on her way to work when the accused attacked her with a sword near Khatu Shyam Temple Road. The woman was identified as 32-year-old Usha Devi, a mother of two. She begged for help but no one came forward to help her. The accused, Mam Raj (60), fled from the spot after committing the crime. Shanjahnpur police station officer (SHO) Surendra Malik told The Times of India that the woman was asked by Mam Raj, on several occasions, to quit the job as it went against the family values.
