Chennai, Feb 13: ‘You do not have to worry. In future, only those who you point will get job opportunities’, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan promised in an event in Tamil Nadu. Sengottaiyan made this extremely bizarre promise to the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party workers at Gobichettipalayam.
“This assurance and this idea have been expressed to the party high command when our chief minister and the deputy chief minister and we were seated,” Sengottaiyan, adding, “This government is forever ready to take you to the peak if the cadre decides to run the party in the best way.”
While the school education minister couldn’t be reached for more comments on this, when contacted his office, one of the team members told NDTV that the minister referred to the “appointments of sweepers and office assistants in ration shops.” He added that the comment was a response to a particular question.
Recently, Cooperatives Minister Sellur Raju stroked controversy when he said that the AIADMK members can avail government benefits if they have the party membership card.
“The AIADMK card is like our life. Every party worker must get the card. Only if you have this card, you or your family will get help from the government. If you want help from the government you can only do it if you have this card,” he had said.
Defending Raju, party spokesperson KP Palaniswami said that the comment of the minister has been “misconstructed” and he “didn’t mean that others won’t get benefits”.
The opposition DMK called it an “organised loot” and demanded that CM E Palaniswami step down from the post. “AIADMK clearly has no qualms about this. It shows how brazen they are and to what extent they would stoop. The EPS government has to step down,” said DMK spokesperson A Saravanan.
Venting out his frustration, DMK MLA TRB Raja said, “A minister in the TN government says that only people with ADMK membership cards will get help from Tamil Nadu government. Is this how a democracy works?”
