Lucknow: A teacher attempted to self-immolate himself outside the Assembly building of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday after he failed to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The teacher wanted to meet the Uttar Pradesh chief minister in order to file a petition regarding the menace created by local musclemen who forcibly attempted to take over his school in Chitrakoot.

The incident took place right in front of the Vidhan Sabha building, stated the police. The teacher’s life was saved after the police personnel posted in the high-security zone reached the spot on time and rescued him.

Phool Chandra Yadav, the teacher resides in Karvi, located in Chitrakoot. Yadav informed the policemen that the school was run by him along with his father Ramsiya Yadav. He said some local goons were trying to take over the school.

The local authorities allegedly paid no attention to Yadav’s complaints regarding the school’s plight. The determined Yadav went to meet the Chief Minister to lodge his complaint. However, he decided to take the extreme step of immolating himself when authorities denied permission to meet the chief minister. Yadav justified his actions by saying that he doused himself in kerosene and tried to burn himself as a mark of protest.

A few months ago, a similar incident occurred when a rape victim tried to kill herself showing her protest against police for not registering a complaint against the ruling party legislator from Unnao. The victim claimed that the legislator was one of the men who gang-raped her.
