Patna, July 10: The Rashtriya Janta Dal on Monday made it clear that Tejashwi Yadav will not resign as Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. The legislators, after the meet, said that there is no question of resignation. Tejashwi Yadav, the elder son of former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, is facing probe in the IRCTC hotel tenders case. Clamour for his resignation grew after he was named in the Central Bureau of Investigation FIR for irregularities in awarding IRCTC hotel tenders in 2006, the year when Lalu Prasad was the Railway Minister.
Meanwhile, reports say that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar spoke to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav after the latter decided after a meeting that Tejashwi won’t resign. Reports also say that Nitish is upset with Tejashwi not quitting as Deputy CM amidst corruption allegations. Bihar Finance Minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui said the party unanimously backs Tejashwi Yadav.
The CBI had on Friday carried out raids at 12 places in Patna, Delhi, Ranchi, Puri and Gurugram in connection with the case involving Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members. The CBI has registered a case against Lalu Prasad, his wife and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, his son and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, former Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Managing Director PK Goyal, and Lalu Prasad’s confidante Prem Chand Gupta’s wife on allegations of awarding the tender for development, maintenance and operation of hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006.
Meanwhile, the CBI and the Enforcement Department had also raided the properties of Lalu Yadav’s daughter Misa Bharati and her relatives earlier this week. The Income Tax Department also seized the properties of Tejashwi and Misa Bharati.
Nitish Kumar has so far remained silent on Tejashwi Yadav. However, Nitish Kumar cancelled his public event with Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav on Monday. The public interaction event – Lok Samvad – is held on each Monday in Patna, where both Nitish and Tejashwi hear the issues raised by common people. Citing ‘health issues’, the Bihar Chief Minister cancelled the event.
