New Delhi: In a yet another horrific incident, a man killed his mother who he suspected of practising black magic on him, news agency ANI reported on Tuesday. The accused identified as Srinivas was arrested after his father filed a complaint. The incident took place in Rajanna Sircilla district of Telangana.

Police said that accused Srinivas killed his mother late on Sunday night. He strangulated her to death. A probe has been launched in the incident.

Earlier in July, a woman was beaten to death by her neighbour for allegedly practising black magic in Palamau district of Jharkhand. The accused was arrested immediately, the Superintendent of Police of the district, Indrajeet Mahatha, had said.

The accused believed that his family members were not keeping well because of witchcraft allegedly practised by the victim Lalitha Devi, Mahatha had added.

An FIR was lodged on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s son and an investigation was initiated to find out the truth behind the incident.

In August, Rajasthan Police had arrested six people for allegedly murdering a 40-year-old woman after branding her a witch in Kekri, a city and a municipality in Ajmer district. The woman had succumbed to her injuries at the spot.

The police had registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including murder, and provisions of the Rajasthan Prevention of Witch-Hunting Act, 2015.

It is reported that many women have been killed in different parts of the country under the name of practising black magic. In Assam, 114 women have been killed between 2001-2007.
