Hyderabad: The second phase of Telangana Panchayat elections began at 7 AM on Friday. The polling for 3,342 panchayats and 26,191 wards will continue till 1 PM. The counting of votes is scheduled to start at 2 PM. The Telangana Panchayat Elections Results for second phase is expected to be out later in the day.

The Telangana Panchayat Elections 2019 are the first ever panchayat poll that is being witnessed by the state since its formation in 2014.

In the wake of the elections, a massive security has been deployed. At least 50,000 security personnel have been stratigically placed at all sensitive points, the state election commission (SEC) informed on Thursday.

A total of 10,668 candidates are in the fray for sarpanch posts in 3,342 panchayats, while 63,480 candidates are contesting for 26,191 wards, revealed the official communication from SEC.

The first phase of the Panchayat polls was held on January 21. A total turnout of 85.76 per cent was recorded in polls held at 3,701 panchayats across the state. The results of the first phase of panchayat elections were declared on the same day. More than 50 per cent panchayat posts were grabbed by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) .While Yadadri-Bhongir district recorded the highest polling percentage of 95.32 per cent, Khammam recorded 93.92 per cent. The lowest voter turnout was recorded in Vikarabad district, that is, 68.25 per cent. Nearly 12,202 candidates were in the fray for sarpanch posts in 3,701 panchayats and as many as, 70,094 candidates contested for 28,976 ward member posts.

The third phase would be held on January 30.
