Mumbai: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by her husband with a cricket bat for taking part in a dance programme at a cultural event in their son’s school. A case has been registered against the man who hails from Dombivli, a city in the Thane district of Maharashtra. On January 19, Sunil started abusing his wife Alpa Kalokhe when she came back home after attending the function.
The quarrel had begun a few days earlier when Alpa expressed her interest to take part in the dance event. Sunil, who was totally against his wife’s participation in the programme, started the fight last week which soon turned violent. A heated argument broke out between the two of them and Sunil took a cricket bat and started assaulting Alpa. The victim sustained serious injuries in her head, hands and legs, stated a report.
Upon investigation, police found that Sunil had assaulted his wife earlier as well. Senior police inspector Rajendra Mungekar told The Times of India that a case has been registered against Sunil for assaulting the woman.
In a similar incident of assault, a man was booked for sexually harassing his wife in a room for more than two weeks at Tiruvallur on January 22. Police reportedly said that Gurumurthy usually argues with his wife Priyanka over trivial issues. He never let his wife speak with their neighbours. The sexual assault happened after Priyanka tried to escape to her mother’s home.
In another case, a man allegedly assaulted his wife and 11-year-old son inside a court room of the Tis Hazari court on June 28 last year after which the accused was arrested, police said. Narender Saini (42) and his wife Vinti Saini (36) were present in the court room along with their son for divorce proceedings, a senior officer said.
