Thane, December 14: The counting for elections for 53 seats of Thane Zilla Parishad is underway. The voting to decide the fate of nearly 151 candidates across parties was held on December 13. About 65 per cent of the total 7.03 lakh voters from across Thane district cast their votes on Wednesday. In the Thane Zilla Parishad, there are 7 talukas in total and comprise of 5 Panchayat Simitis. As per details on the Thane Zilla Parishad website, the total population in the Thane Zilla Parishad is about 80,58,930.
This election for the seat of president of Thane Zilla Parishad will help the winning candidate to get the top spot in the rural politics. As per reports, about 7.03 lakh voters from across Kalyan, Ambernath, Shahpur, Murbad and Bhiwandi have been entrusted to elect the party. Bhiwandi has the highest number of voters at around 2.57 lakh who will vote for 21 seats while Ambernath has the least number of voters where nearly 49,857 voters will vote for four seats.
As per reports, about 6,000 staff were deployed across the talukas to ensure fair polls. “We have kept an eye on heavy valued banking transactions and ensured that the social media was not misused to create last-minute campaigning. Overall the election process went about peacefully,” an official on poll duty was quoted by TOI.
