New Delhi: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti came to full blows on Thursday for the world to see when they deemed Twitter fit to spar with one another.
The war of words erupted with Abdullah questioning how BJP candidate for Bhopal constituency Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, who is the prime accused in the Malegaon blast case 2008, is contesting this Lok Sabha election. but is out on bail due to ‘health problems’. He opined how was Sadhvi too ill to stay imprisoned but not ill to contest the election?
To this, Mehbooba commented, “Imagine the anger if I’d field a terror accused. Channels would’ve gone berserk by now trending a mehboobaterrorist hashtag! According to these guys, terror has no religion when it comes to saffron fanatics but otherwise, all Muslims are terrorists. Guilty until proven innocent”
But Abdullah was quick to point out that ‘these guys’ or the BJP, in an apparent reference, were the PDP’s ally in Jammu and Kashmir until they withdrew from the alliance, forcing the state into Governor’s rule after then chief minister Mufti also resigned.
The People’s Democratic Party and the BJP ties were long been reported to have severed in the summer of 2018- but the last nail in the coffin was when both parties failed to see eye-to-eye on the issue of Ramzan ceasefire. Various issues and reasons were reported from either side, with an underlying message that the relations had been put into a deep freeze.
