Delhi-NCR fog hits air travel: Massive flight cancellation, several diverted at Delhi IGI airport; IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet issue advisory
Iran has decided to end its visa-free entry for Indian travellers starting November 22. After this date, Indian citizens will need a visa not only to visit Iran but even to use Iranian airports for transit. In response, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued new advisories warning people about risks such as kidnapping and fake job offers.
According to the MEA, Iran suspended the visa-free travel option to stop criminals from abusing the system. The advisory said that from November 22, all Indian passport holders must get a visa before entering or passing through Iran. It also strongly warned Indians not to trust agents who claim they can arrange visa-free travel or onward trips to other countries through Iran.
The MEA said it has received reports of Indians being misled with fake job offers or promises of travel to other countries. These people were lured into flying to Iran using the visa waiver, and once they arrived, many were kidnapped and held for ransom. The government has urged all Indian nationals to stay alert and avoid falling for such scams.
What does the new rule say?
Under the new policy, Indian citizens must now apply for and receive an Iranian visa before they board a flight to Iran. This rule applies to everyone, including people who are only passing through Iran on their way to another country. Even transit passengers now need a valid visa. Airlines have also been told to verify that all Indian travellers have the required visa before allowing them to fly.
