Those supporting Gurmehar Kaur should be sent to Pakistan: BJP minister Anil Vij

New Delhi, Mar 1: Reacting on the tweets of Gurmehar Kaur against ABVP in the wake of Ramjas Colleges violence, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Anil Vij branded everyone who is supporting the daughter of Kargil war martyr as pro-Pakistan. Anil Vij, who is cabinet minister in Haryana government, said those who are supporting Gurmehar Kaur in this controversy should be thrown out of the country.

“Those supporting Gurmehar Kaur are pro-Pakistan,therefore such people should be thrown out of the country,” said Anil Vij. This comes in backdrop of the unrest prevailing in the Delhi University following disruption of an event themed ‘ Cultures of Protest’ at Ramjas College and social campaign launched by Gurmehar Kaur against RSS-affiliated students’ wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Anil Vij, who is known for his controversial remarks, had said earlier that from the time Mahatma Gandhi’s name has been associated with Khadi, the industry has never been able to stand up. Vij’s comment had come in connection with the controversy over the photo of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi replacing that of Gandhi in the 2017 wall calendar and table diary published by the Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

A war of words on nationalism and freedom of speech erupted on social media after former cricketer Virender Sehwag and actor Randeep Hooda mocked at Gurmehar Kaur. Sehwag had earlier tweeted an image of himself holding a placard that said, “I didn’t score two triple centuries, my bat did.”

The image was an aimed at trolling Gurmehar Kaur, who in a video posted on youtube held a placard that said, “Pakistan did not kill my father, War did.” Actor Randeep Hooda had supported Sehwag’s tweet by saying, “Your tweet is even greater than a triple century.”

Gurmehar Kaur hit the headlines after she took up a poster campaign against violence on the campus allegedly by the members of ABVP. The violence erupted on February 22 — a day after the ABVP activists got force-cancelled a seminar at Delhi University’s Ramjas College, where Jawaharlal Nehru University student Umar Khalid, charged with sedition last year, was invited as a speaker.

Gurmehar Kaur, however, left for Jalandhar hours after pulling back from the campaign on Tuesday, as she was allegedly getting death and rape threats through social media platforms.
