Ludhiana, Nov 18: Three suspects in the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Ravinder Gosain were sent to police remand for five days on Saturday. The development comes hours later when terror investigation body National Investigation Agency (NIA) met the family members of the slain leader. The probe agency led by Inspector General G P Singh also visited the crime spot where Gosain was killed

The NIA is probing the murder which left the city shocked. Soon after his murder, many frontal organisations of RSS had demanded a high-level probe. State police had claimed to have achieved a major success in solving several targeted killing cases including that of Gosain with the arrest of five persons.

They were accused of killing people under a conspiracy to fan communal violence in the state. The arrested included Jimmy Singh, Jagtar Singh Jaggi, shooters Hardeep Singh Shera and Ramandeep Singh.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had transferred the case to the investigating agency soon after RSS requested him for a probe. Singh announced, “On request of @RSSorg, I’ve ordered transfer of Gosain murder case to NIA for better coordination between central agencies & Punjab police.”

Ravinder Gosain, 60-year-old RSS functionary, was shot on October 17 dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Ludhiana’s Kailash Nagar. The murder took place in the morning while Gosain was returning from a drill at a local RSS shakha.
