The operation was jointly carried out by troops of the Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP). Also Read - Jammu And Kashmir: 3 Hizbul Terrorists Killed in Encounter With Security Forces in Shopian
The JKP, in a statement, said, “The three terrorists killed in encounter in an operation by the Army, CRPF and J&K Police in Tral of Pulwama district, have been identified as Jangeer Rafiq Wani, Raja Umar Maqbool Bhat and Uzair Amin Bhat. Earlier, a cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched on Tuesday by the security forces in Diver village of Tral after specific information regarding presence of terrorists in the area was received.
Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists.
The encounter came on a day Panchayat polls, due to be held in Jammu and Kashmir on March 5, were postponed by the Election Commission until further notice after receiving inputs over a potential law and order situation in the region.
The Panchayat polls, as and when held, will be the first electoral exercise in the region since its special status was revoked last August. As a part of that move, Jammu and Kashmir was also split into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
