Thunderstorm Claims Three Lives in Firozabad, Death Toll Across India Reaches 134
Earlier in the day, gusty winds hit NCR and its adjoining area after India Meteorological Department officials issued a fresh warning of a thunderstorm in parts of Delhi and NCR.
Lucknow, May 19: Three people have reportedly died on Saturday after a medium intensity thunderstorm hit Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, a news agency ANI reported. On May 7, two people died in Firozabad, five in Etawah district, three each in Mathura, Aligarh and Agra and one each in Hathras and Kanpur Dehat, after a severe thunderstorm struck the state; 18 dead and 27 were left injured in the storm-struck state.
Earlier in the day, gusty winds hit NCR and its adjoining area after India Meteorological Department officials issued a fresh warning of a thunderstorm in parts of Delhi and NCR.
On Thursday also, the India Meteorological Department issued warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail storms for the national capital and Jammu and Kashmir. The other parts including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and parts of North West India is also expected to hit by thunderstorm accompanied with strong winds. IMD scientist Dr K Sathidevi told ANI, “there is a probability of thunderstorm, strong winds and hailstorms in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, Delhi and parts of North West India for three days. Dust storm in Rajasthan is also possible.”
In the past two weeks, dust and thunderstorm has claimed 134 lives, leaving 400 injured in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, and Punjab. At least 100 people died in north India and some other states, owing to thunderstorms.
