Police have not ruled out the possibility of murder. The model worked in the state capital and reports say she was a regular at lavish parties of the high and mighty. They said the body, with its hands and legs tied, was found in a pond in Guroor region.

There were injury marks on the body and stab marks on the abdomen. Apparently, to keep the body from staying afloat, a  stone was tied to it but it got stuck among the rocky edges and was spotted by the residents.

Locals called the police and the model’s body could be identified by the tattoo on her hand when her photo was circulated on social media. Later, her family verified her identity.

Reportedly, Aanchal left Raipur on Monday and reached Dhamtari around 9 PM. Her mother told the police that soon after reaching home, she received a phone call and went out to meet someone.

She said she had objected to Aanchal’s going out so late but the young woman assured her she would be back in half an hour. Her daughter then went with someone on a bike. She said she couldn’t identify the biker as it was dark.

The police could not recover Aanchal’s phone on her person. They also said that post-mortem revealed that the body had been in the water for over 12 hours which led them to deduce that she was within hours of stepping out with the biker.

Police also said they suspected that the accused was someone Aanchal knew well. They said now they would scan her call details as also her social media accounts. Aanchal was fairly active on social media and police said she was even accused of blackmail and extortion by a forest officer posted in Barnawapara over a video clip.

Aanchal was arrested in 2014 and she had complained against the officer for sexual exploitation on the pretext of marriage.
