Rajesh Dutt Bajpai, Executive Director, Ministey of Railways, in a statement said, “No train except goods train will be run up to midnight hrs of March 31.” Also Read - Coronavirus: What is Hydroxychloroquine? Why is it Trending?

Bajpai said bare minimum suburban services and Kolkata metro Rail service will continue to run till midnight on March 22.

“Thereafter these services will also be stopped till midnight of March 31,” he added.

In view of ‘Janata Curfew’, the Indian Railways had already decided to cancel the long distance trains originating between 4 AM and 10 PM. The railways has also cancelled all passengers trains across the country.

India is currently witnessing a Sunday lockdown following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to stay indoors and avoid any movement, as a way to cultivate the discipline of social distancing in a fight against the Coronavirus menace. The ‘Janata Curfew’ which began at 7 AM Sunday will continue till 9 in the evening.

Meanwhile, two more deaths due to the virus have been reported in the country, one in Bihar and the other in Mumbai. Total death toll has now risen to 6.
