Agartala, Dec 20: Trinamool Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Monday seized Tripura Assembly Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath’s ceremonial mace and ran out in protest against the Speaker as he refused to allow discussion on Forest Minister Naresh Jamatia. Jamatia is facing allegation of sexual offences and conspiring against dedicated CPI(M) leaders, as per The Hindu. As Barman ran with the mace, the MLAs in the House were seen running behind Barman, chasing him thus leading to disruption in the Tripura Assembly’s winter session. They finally managed to take back the mace outside the exit door. This incident is reported to be the third incident of mace snatching in history of Tripura Assembly. It was reported that the Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislators were sloganeering against Jamatia when Barman seized the speaker’s mace and ran away. The mace that was seized is a replica of the Indian national emblem. As per The Hindu report, the members of the opposition, Congress and TMC had earlier in the day blamed Jamatia citing a tribal leader’s statement, who had recently been expelled from the CPI(M). Joy Kishore Jamatia, who is a member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council had accused the Minister of moral turpitude.
As per News 18, TMC MLA Sudip Roy Burman, former leader of the opposition, raised the issue published in a local Bengali daily during the Zero Hour. To this, Jamatiya stood up and rubbished all charges published in the newspaper and termed the allegations as baseless.
