Tripura Assembly Elections 2018: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Address Rallies in Sonamura, Kailashahar Today

In Tripura, the BJP has emerged as the main challenger to the ruling CPI (M), while in Meghalaya it is in contest with the Congress.

Agartala, Feb 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold two rallies in Tripura on Thursday ahead of the February 18 Assembly election. The PM will address rallies in Sonamura in Sipahijala district and Kailashahar in Unakoti district. This is the first political rally of Modi in Tripura after he became the Prime Minister in 2014.

Ahead of the rallies, security has been beefed up in the state. Central and state paramilitary forces have been deployed at strategic locations in the two districts where PM Modi is scheduled to speak. (BJP Releases First List of 44 Candidates For Tripura Assembly Election 2018)

The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at Agartala airport in a chartered plane, and from there, he would fly to Sonamura of Sipahijala district in an IAF helicopter. He will then address a rally at Rangamati Madrassa school ground in Sipahijala. After the rally at Siphijala, Modi would go to Kailashahar in Unakoti district where he would address a public meet at Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya stadium in the second half of the day.

Speaking to The Economic Times, National Executive Member and Tripura State Incharge, Sunil Deodhar asserted that Prime minister’s rally will get overwhelming response in the state. (Congress Releases Lists of Candidates For Tripura)

There are 1,76,263 voters in Unakoti district and 3,64,928 voters spread across nine assembly constituencies in Sipahijhala district, according to Tripura Chief Electoral Officer Sriram Taranikanti.

Earlier on January 31, State BJP president Biplab Kumar Deb said in Agartala that 40 top BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, U.P. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Muktar Abbas Naqvi would also visit the State for campaigning.

On January 7, while addressing a rally in Agartala, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on CPI(M) and Left front government in Tripura and threatened to act tough against Left leaders over alleged menace of corruption and lawlessness in the State.

Election for the 60-member Assembly will be held in the State on February 18 and results would be announced on March 3.
