New Delhi, Apr 28: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has stoked a fresh controversy again by saying that civil engineers are better suited for civil services than mechanical engineers. “After pursuing mechanical engineering one should not go for civil services. Instead, civil engineers should join civil services as they have the knowledge and experience to help build administration and society,” a news agency ANI reported Biplab Deb as saying.
Deb spoke about medical profession as well. He said that “doctors also have an added benefit of utilising their skills in a civil service post.” They can apply their knowledge to treat the sick, he remarked. The minister made the controversial remarks while attending an event organised to mark Civil Service Day in Agartala.
However, this is not the first time Deb has courted controversy with his remarks. Earlier on April 27, the Tripura CM had raised question on the rationale behind crowning Diana Hayden ‘Miss World’ 21 years ago. He had also claimed that the international beauty pageants were a farce and the results were all predetermined.
“Whoever contested the international beauty pageants won. For five consecutive years, we won the Miss World/Miss Universe awards. Diana Hayden won it too. Do you think she should have won the title?” Deb had said adding,”Indian beauty should ideally look like Goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati. Diana Hayden did not deserve to win the Miss World crown. Actually, it was part of a fixed plan, which was hatched keeping in mind the interests of the international market. Aishwarya Rai’s victory was well deserved as she represents the quintessential Indian woman.”
Earlier this month, Deb, an arts graduate, had claimed that Internet and satellite communication existed in the days of Mahabharata, which had drawn criticism from Twitterati, intellectuals and his political adversaries. Watch this space for further updates.
