New Delhi, Jan 18: The Election Commission has announced the complete schedule and dates for Assembly Elections 2018 in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland. The voting date for Tripura Assembly Elections 2018 is February 18. Voting date for Meghalaya Assembly Elections 2018 and Nagaland Assembly Elections 2018 is February 27 while counting date for all three states is March 3. The Tripura Assembly, Nagaland Assembly as well as Meghalaya Assembly have 60 seats each. Tripura has a Government headed by the Left Front with Chief Minister Manik Sarkar at the helm. The model code of conduct has been put in place in all three poll-bound states. The polls will be conducted under CCTV surveillance, said the Election Commission. Tight security will be deployed in the three states before elections, especially in vulnerable areas. The limit for election expenditure is Rs 20 lakh per candidate.
Tripura will go to polls on February 18, Sunday while counting will take place on March 3. The last date of filing nomination here is January 31, following which scrutiny will take place on Feb 1. The BJP is looking at bringing down the Manik Sarkar government in Tripura. BJP chief Amit Shah visited the state recently and attacked the Left government, saying it was time to put an end to it. The BJP is also in talks tribal IPFT for an electoral alliance.
Meghalaya will go to polls on February 27, Tuesday while counting will take place on March 3. The last date of filing nomination here is February 7 after which scrutiny will take place on February 8. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is Feb 12.
The Congress has been in power in Meghalaya in the past 8 years. The NCP, launching an attack on the ruling Congress, has announced that it will be contesting 42 seats in the state this election.
Nagaland will go to polls on Feb 27 while counting will take place on March 3. The last date of filing nomination here is February 7 after which scrutiny will take place on February 8. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is Feb 12.
The Nagaland People’s Front rules the state with the BJP and JDU. Reports say that the JDU will contest the Nagaland Election this year on a larger scale. Even as the party hasn’t announced the number of seats it will contest, it remains to be seen if it will enter an alliance with the BJP like in Bihar.
