An India Today report claims that Dinakaran’s supporters started raising slogans against Panneerselvam as soon as they saw him entering the airport with Sellur Raju. While raising slogans, against OPS and in favour of Sasikala, a Dinakaran-supporter had to be pushed out of Panneerselvam’s way that resulted into an altercation which left several injured. The report also claims that the police had to resort to lathicharge to bring the crowd under control.
The Dinakaran faction has been upset over its isolation in the ruling party whose two major factions, led by Palaniswami and Panneerselvam, united recently. The merged party also decided to sack jailed VK Sasikala as General Secretary.
Nineteen legislators belonging to the Dinakaran faction met the Governor on August 22 and petitioned to change the Chief Minister. Following that, opposition parties have been demanding Palaniswami to prove his majority on the floor of the house.
As per a latest development, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal has sent a notice to the 19 MLAs who support TTV Dinakaran asking them to appear on September 14.
