New Delhi, May 28: Two cousins allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near southeast Delhi’s Tughlakabad railway station on Sunday evening, said reports. Police have recovered a suicide note from a bag lying near the bodies.
According to a report in The Times of India, DCP (railways) Parvez Ahmed said the victims had been identified as Meenakshi (16) and Urvashi (17). An investigation under section 174 of the CrPC has been initiated.

Highlights

  • Bodies recovered; just one suicide note.
  • The note seeks apology but gives no reason.

Police said the incident was reported at 6 pm on Sunday. Another report claimed that one girl died on the spot while the other succumbed at the hospital. A preliminary probe revealed that the suicide note was suspected to be written by Meenakshi. In the note, she had reportedly apologised to her father and other family members for taking the step and had asked them to take care of each other. But the note does not reveal why the girls took the extreme step, said an officer.

Meenakshi’s brother reportedly told the cops that she had been depressed for the past year ever since their mother’s death. Police think this could be a strong motive but they were also checking if there wasn’t a studies-related issue. The death of Urvashi was also being probed alongside. Police said Urvashi may have died trying to save Meenakshi since no suicide note was recovered from her. Both the girls lived in Ghaziabad.

The families of both the deceased were being questioned for more details. CCTV cameras around the station and nearby places were being scanned while the police were probing how the teens managed to reach Tughlakabad from their Ghaziabad homes.
