Two days after Uri attack, 10 terrorists killed by Army in Lachipura area, Uri sector

On the same day, Pakistani troops reportedly violated ceasefire in the same sector, targeting Indian army posts. No army casualties have been reported.

New Delhi, September 20: The Indian army on Tuesday foiled yet another infiltration attempt by terrorists from across the Line of Control (LoC). In just two days after the Uri attack which killed 18 Indian soldiers and injured 20 others, ten terrorists were neutralised in Lachipura area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector less than 24 hours after the operation in Uri was called off following completion. No army casualties have been reported. On the same day, Pakistani troops reportedly violated ceasefire in the same sector, targeting Indian army posts.

Following the attack on the administrative base of an army brigade headquarters in Uri, people across the country have called for stern action against Pakistan which is believed to have backed the terrorist organisation, Jaish-e-Mohammed, behind Sunday’s attack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a diplomatic isolation of Pakistan and according to certain media reports, his visit to Islamabad in November for the SAARC summit has been cancelled. Other nation, including Afghanistan and Bangladesh are mulling over boycotting Pakistan as well by not attending the summit.

Hours after the attack, Home Minister Rajnath Singh declared Pakistan to be a terrorist state and said that it should be “identified and isolated as such”. On Monday, Modi chaired a high-level meeting with the top brass and later met President Pranab Mukherjee to brief him of the latest developments. Earlier today, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed an FIR in the terror attack case. Later this week, a six-member team will visit the site and collect evidence in the matter, The Indian Express reported.

The Modi government has a tough task ahead. With a large section of the masses calling for military action, it has decided that India will not take any “knee-jerk” reaction to the attack. Government sources also said that decisions will be taken after proper planning, coordination, exploring all options and taking everyone into confidence.
