Pulwama: Four militants were gunned down on Saturday in a gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Four militants were killed in the gunfight. Weapons and other warlike stores were found at the encounter site, an Army official said.
According to police, the security forces surrounded Hajin Payeen village after receiving information about the presence of militants there.
Reports from the area mentioned that the slain militants belonged to Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) outfit.
Following the gun battle, clashes broke out at the encounter site in which 16 persons were injured, according to media reports.
The Indian Express quoted health officials saying that the injured were rushed to various health facilities in Pulwama. One of the civilians sustained a bullet injury on his right hand and was shifted to Srinagar.
On Friday, a militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Awantipora area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The slain militant was identified as Ishfaq Yousuf Wani, a resident of Qoil area of Pulwama in south Kashmir.
On December 22, the security forces had gunned down six terrorists, including Zakir Musa’s close aide Soliha Mohammad, in an encounter in Pulwama district.
The six slain terrorists belonged to Zakir Musa’s terror outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind — a cell of Al-Qaeda operating in the Kashmir valley.
