New Delhi: A Ujjain-based godman allegedly raped a 41-year-old woman in Mumbai, stated a report. Further, he extorted a sum of Rs 3.5 lakh from the victim and her husband. To obtain the money, the godman reportedly claimed that the money was needed for performing a ritual that would possibly cure the victim’s son. Notably, the son died last year.
The victim along with her husband registered a case in this regard. The Trombay police have already begun their search operations to nab the godman. However, even after the son’s death, the godman allegedly continued exploiting the woman sexually.
Speaking to reporters, P Salvi, inspector of Trombay police station said, “We have registered a case under Sections of 376 (rape), 354(a) (sexual harassment), 384 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and under relevant sections of the black magic Act.”
The officer was quoted by a leading daily as saying, “The couple was devasted after their only son was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. The child was admitted to a hospital, but his parents were not satisfied with the treatment. In May 2017, the boy’s mother met the godman at a temple. She approached the godman and narrated her ordeal to him. The godman promised to cure the illness through some rituals.”
As per the FIR, the godman performed a yagna at the woman’s house. Upon the advice of the godman, the woman consumed the ash from the yagna and fell unconscious. The police officer reportedly added that the godman stole jewellery worth Rs 60,000 from her house after the incident.
In the FIR, the couple blamed the godman for claiming that the sexual assault of the woman was part of the ritual. The godman further had clicked pictures of the woman and video-taped the incident of assault which he used as a tool to blackmail the woman for money. The godman allegedly threatened the woman that if she refused to provide the money, he would leak the videos on social media.
