New Delhi: Following PM Modi’s visit to the Ganesh Puja celebrations at Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud’s residence, several opposition parties and some lawyers slammed the top leader and reacted to the viral video. While speaking to the reporters, the Shiv Sena(UBT) leader said,” Ganpathi festival is going on, people visit each other’s houses. I don’t have info regarding how many houses PM visited so far…but PM went to CJI’s house and they together performed ‘Aarti’…if a custodian of the Constitution meets politicians, it can create doubt in the minds of people.”
“Our case of Maharashtra…the hearing is going on before CJI Chandrachud so we have doubt if we will get justice because PM is the other party in the case. In our case, other party is the central govt…Chief Justice should distance himself from this case because his relation with the other party in the case is openly visible. Will CJI Chandrachud be able to give us justice in such a situation? We are getting dates after date and an illegal govt is going on…Shiv Sena and NCP were broken in such a way…we are not getting justice and PM Modi is taking a lot of interest in the illegal govt of Maharashtra, to save them. The CJI who is supposed to give us justice, with him PM has such a bond so yesterday a doubt was formed in the minds of Maharashtra..,” Raut said.
Reacting to PM Modi’s viral Ganpati Puja celebrations video, Senior lawyer Indira Jaising alleged that the Chief Justice of India has compromised the separation of powers between the Executive and Judiciary.” Lost all confidence in the independence of the CJI . The SCBA must condemn this publicly displayed compromise of Independence of the CJI from the Executive @KapilSibal,” she wrote.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi participated in the Ganpati Puja at the CJI’s residence. In a 23-second short clip, Chandrachud and his wife Kalpana Das were seen welcoming Modi at their house.

While speaking to the news agency PTI, Manoj Jha, RJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP, stated that the independence of every institution is not just theoretical, but must be seen. “Independence of every institution shouldn’t be oVIDEO | “Independence of every institution shouldn’t be only theoretical, it should be visible. Attending Ganpati Pujan is a very personal issue, however, it sends an uncomfortable message,” said RJD leader Manoj Jha.
Hitting back, BJP national general secretary (Organisation) BL Santhosh said though left liberals have started crying over the prime minister attending the event at the CJI’s residence, “it was not socialising but a devoted Ganapathi Pooja”. Reacting to Jaising’s comments, Santhosh wrote,”Started crying! Civility, cordiality, togetherness, co travellers in nations journey are all an anathema to these left liberals. Also it was not socialising but a devoted Ganapathi Pooja is very hard to digest. SCBA is not a moral compass. Take deep breath once.”
In another post, the BJP leader wrote, “Yesterday’s Pooja and Aarti spoiled the sleep, morning walk and tea-breakfast of many people across the country.” Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora also flayed the critics and said it’s unfortunate to see “reckless commentary” on Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the CJI’s residence for Ganapati Aarti.
“When verdicts favour them, the opposition praises the Supreme Court’s credibility, but when things don’t go their way, they conveniently claim the judiciary is compromised,” he charged in a post on X Casting such baseless aspersions on the highest court sets a dangerous precedent, he added.

“This reckless attempt to undermine the credibility of the CJI by the opposition is not only irresponsible but also damaging to the institution’s integrity. India’s politics is taking an ugly turn,” Deora said.
The era of “arbitrary judicial appointments” is long gone and the incumbent CJI has served his office with immense integrity, he added. “Those seeking to tarnish his legacy and credibility are showing poor judgment and acting against the nation’s best interests,” Deora said.
