New Delhi: China understands India’s concern over developments in connection with the listing of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist by United Nations Security Council, Chinese Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. He also asserted the matter will be resolved soon.
“Regarding Masood Azhar we fully understand and we fully believe this matter. We understand India’s concerns and are optimistic this matter will be resolved,” he reportedly said during Holi celebrations at Chinese Embassy in national capital on Sunday.
The Chinese envoy also said that the hold on listing of JeM chief as a global terrorist is only a technical hold and this means that there is time for continued consultations. “It will be resolved, believe me,” he said.
He also added that after the Wuhan Summit last year, the two-way cooperation is on the right and fast track. “We’re satisfied with this cooperation and optimistic about the future,” he reportedly said.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met four times in 2018 starting with famous informal Wuhan Summit followed by meetings on the sidelines of SCO, BRICS and G20.
China for the fourth time, on Wednesday, blocked the bid in the UN Security Council to designate the chief of the Pakistan-based terror group JeM as a global terrorist by putting a technical hold on the proposal. The Chinese move was termed ‘disappointing’ by India.
Speaking on China’s hold on the bid in UNSC, India stressed that Beijing has adequate information that there are ‘groups operating in Pakistan against China also… India is disappointed with China’.
