New Delhi: While all eyes are set on Parliament where Finance Minister Piyush Goyal is presenting the Interim Budget on Friday, it’s time we looked at the people who have worked relentlessly for days on end to complete this onerous task of preparing the budget.
As per reports, a team of over a hundred officials have been working for over a week without any social interaction.
“Around 110 officials, including section officers, undersecretaries and others involved with the preparation of the Union Budget, have been staying in the ministry building since December 3. These officials are not allowed to step out or talk to family,” a Finance Ministry official was quoted as saying by a leading portal.
He added that even doctors were present inside the building to tackle a medical emergency.
Also, use of phones was banned; neither cellphones nor fixed line phones were allowed during this period. They are not even allowed to call friends and family unless there’s an emergency. Even then, the calls are closely monitored by government officials. The officials are allowed to come out only after the Finance Minister presents the Budget.
The Finance Ministry has been under quarantine since December 1. This process of quarantine is observed every year to avoid any leak of information.
Normally, media personnel with valid PIB cards are allowed to enter North Block, the seat of Finance ministry, without a prior appointment. But during the quarantine period, such entries were barred.
Electronic sweeping devices were installed and private e-mail facilities to most computers in the ministry blocked.
