New Delhi: In yet another shocking incident, a 70-year-old man was brutally assaulted and tonsured by cow vigilantes in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh. The victim identified as Kailash Nath Shukla was reportedly taking his ailing cow to a neighbouring village for treatment when suddenly ‘Gau Rakshaks’ attacked him.
The vigilantes got infuriated after a rumour was spread that the man was taking his cow to another village to sell it to a Muslim. Though the victim told him that he was a Brahmin and was taking the cow to consult a veterinary doctor for treatment, the Gau Rakshaks did not listen to him and thrashed him brutally. They also threw him in a gutter. and shaved off his head, blackened his face and paraded him in the village.
Later, the victim went to a nearby police station to report the case but cops refused to budge. Reports claimed that a the complaint was filed after the intervention of a senior officer. Police said they have interrogated eyewitnesses and on the basis of their statement, four men have been taken into custody and further investigations into the case are underway.
The incident comes days after a 20-year-old Shahrukh Khan was lynched by a mob in Bareilly district on suspicion of cattle lifting.
