Lucknow: A day after the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) formally announced their alliance for the coming Lok Sabha elections, an MLA has raised doubt over its efficacy. (Also read: RLD Demands Five Seats to Join Alliance)
As per ANI, SP MLA from Sirsaganj, Hariom Yadav, said on Sunday, “The SP-BSP alliance will not work in Firozabad. It won’t be successful here. Yeh gathbandhan tabhi tak chal sakta hai jab tak humare rashtriya adhyakshji behenji ki haan mein haan milate rahenge aur ghutne tekte rahenge (This alliance can work only as long as our national president (Akhilesh Yadav) keeps obeying Mayawati and cowers in front of her).”
However, his chief Akhilesh has been upbeat about the alliance. He has gone on record to claim that many BJP members were leaving their party to join the SP-BSP. Announcing their alliance, he also lambasted the BJP and said the ‘alliance was necessary to defeat the arrogance of the BJP’. He said, “The BJP can go to any extent to create differences in our workers, we must be united and counter any such tactic.”
Responding to whether he will support Mayawati for Prime Minister’s post, the SP chief said, “You know who is my choice. Uttar Pradesh has given prime ministers in the past and trend will be repeated again.”
On Sunday, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav met Mayawati and claimed his father and party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was also in favour of an alliance of the two UP heavyweights even for the Assembly elections.
