Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Uttar Pradesh unit will file a police complaint, following a fake list of party candidates which is doing rounds of the social media, said a report.
The list includes the name of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and other 23 candidates and shows the signature of BJP in-charge of UP elections.
“This is a fake list,” BJP state general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak told the Pioneer. He added that the central election committee of the BJP has not announced the list yet as it was due to meet on Friday evening.
The list came as a shock to the BJP supporters as it lacked named of prominent party leaders including Menaka Gandhi and her son Varun.
Earlier in January, an FIR was registered in Lucknow after a fake list of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidates for the upcoming general elections got viral on social media. This came days after, the SP-BSP formalised an alliance ditching the Congress party. The complaint was filed by BSP state president RS Kushwaha. The fake list released by unknown persons on social media apparently had Kushwaha’s fake signature. The police had registered a case under Sections 419,468,469,470 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
