New Delhi, November 3: With less than 20 days left for Uttar Pradesh civic polls, parties are gearing up and will have their senior leaders campaigning in the state. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma, Textiles Minister Smriti Irani are likely to campaign in the three-phased civic polls, sources said. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy Dinesh Sharma will travel across the state, the sources added. BJP MPs Varun Gandhi and Vinay Katiyar may not find place in the star campaigners list. Even Sardhana MLA Sangeet Som, who is known for making controversial remarks, may not figure in the list of campaigners, the sources said. In the first challenge for the Yogi Adityanth government after coming to power in March, the party will fight elections on the agenda of development and corruption.
The final list of star campaigners is likely to be out on November 7.
Uttar Pradesh will have civic polls in three phases from November 22. As per the schedule, 24 districts will go to polls on November 22, 25 districts on November 26, and 26 districts on November 29, said State Election Commissioner SK Agarwal.
The counting of votes polled for 16 nagar nigam, 118 nagar palika parishad and 438 nagar panchyat will be done December 1. In this elections, 3.32 crore voters will exercise their franchise at 36,269 polling booths and 11,389 polling stations.
