UP Doctor Kills ex-wife in Nepal, Keeps Her Alive on Social Media For 7 Months to Deceive Cops
Dr Dharmendra Pratap Singh and his two accomplices – Pramod Kumar Singh and Deshdeepak Nishad – were arrested and sent to jail on Saturday.
New Delhi: A renowned surgeon of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, killed his ex-wife by pushing her off a cliff in Nepal’s Pokhra, but kept updating her social media account to keep her virtually alive in order to deceive the police, according to a Times of India report.
The mystery over missing woman Rakhi Shrivastava came to end with the arrest of her ex-husband Dr Dharmendra Pratap Singh and his two accomplices – Pramod Kumar Singh and Deshdeepak Nishad – and sent to jail on Saturday.
The police had earlier held Rakhi’s second husband Manish for questioning as her family had filed a case against him after she went missing in June. However, Uttar Pradesh’s Special Task Force (STF) later zeroed in on her first husband, who runs a nursing home in Gorakhpur.
During the investigation, the STF found that Rakhi had gone to Nepal with Manish on June 1. However, she stayed back while Manish returned. They then realised that Dharmendra was also in Nepal at the time when Rakhi went missing.
The cops found that Rakhi’s phone was active at Pokhra in Nepal between June 1 and June 4. When the STF team visited the area, they were informed by the local police about the recovery of a woman’s dead body, which was later identified as Rakhi.
“This made Dr Singh a prime suspect. After sustained interrogation, he confessed to have killed Rakhi as she was blackmailing him to get money and property,” STF IG Amitabh Yash was quoted by Times of India as saying.
“They took her out, offered her a sedative-laced drink and pushed her off a cliff in Pokhra itself. However, even after killing Rakhi, they kept updating her social media account through her mobile phone,” he added.
The last location of Rakhi’s mobile phone was traced to Guwahati on October 4. The accused doctor confessed that he had sent the phone to Guwahati through one of his aides who dropped it there.
Rakhi, a resident of Bichhiya area of Gorakhpur, came in Dr Singh’s contact in 2006 when she visited his nursing home for her father’s treatment. Gradually, she went into a relationship with Dr Singh, who was already married.
When Dr Singh’s wife Usha Singh came to know about her husband’s secret wedding, she forced him to part ways with Rakhi.
Meanwhile, Rakhi developed intimacy with Manish and married him in February 2016. However, she continued to be in touch with Dr Singh.
During the Nepal trip when Rakhi came to know that Dr Singh would be visiting her, she sent her husband back. The accused, who confessed before STF that he had tried to kill her several times earlier as well, told that he came this time with a pre-determined plan.
